The Dunny

Dunbar, Vancouver, Canada

A phase-one update of a busy family home with four young children. The family was not quite ready to upgrade everything with kids still spilling food and making dents.

Blessed with an amazing collection of art, they wanted a refresh to take them through the next few years.

We decided to recover their existing sofas (since they were in great condition other than the dated fabric) and added pops of colour with custom throw cushions. For additional punch, and to add a sense of continuity and modernisation, we painted their huge traditional farm table a bright blue colour that was pulled from the cushions.

We decided to keep the existing 111 Navy chairs because they are so durable and act as the perfect contrast to the more traditional elements of the house. A new Roger Oates runner was added to the central stairs for a bit of warmth and, more importantly, to prevent slippage in stocking feet.

The final outcome was a modern polish to an already beautiful home.

The Montauk sofas were reupholstered in a more modern, Mokum fabric with leather piping. Upholstery and throw cushions by @ffabb_home
