The King Eddie

King Edward St, Vancouver, Canada

The kitchen is the heart centre of every home and, as such, should be the most functional, beautiful, and welcoming room in the house. In order to bring light into this small and somewhat tired kitchen, we extended the back of the house and added new windows and doors to the backyard. Keeping the pallet neutral helps makes the space refined and timeless. The views through the windows act as landscape paintings and provide the understated balance to the white interior.

The central island was intentionally oversized to allow for family and friends to saddle up with a cocktail and chat with the chef as they prepare a meal. We matched the base of the island to the dining table as a way of bridging two rooms that are so close together and kept the counter continuous so as to provide ample space for food prep and entertaining.

15 years later and this special place is still going strong.
